I connected
my FlyCASE Slim using only the USB2 cable. The
power light comes on and there is a constant clicking
noise coming from my computer hard disk.
|
That may mean that your FlyCASE Slim's power supply
is at its limit. In this case, connect an external
power supply (Connector to PS/2 keyboard cable or
external 5 V power supply).
When you connect a "FlyCASE Slim" USB2 to a computer,
we advise you to also connect the power supply using
the "PS/2 keyboard connector" cable supplied with
your FlyCASE. As the current supplied by your computer's
USB2 connector is 500 mA and the consumption of
your FlyCASE is also around 500 mA, you may observe
a degree of slowdown due to the supply voltage level
being just adequate. This is recommended, even if
your power light comes on properly and your FlyCASE
Slim also starts properly. |

The FlyCASE
is not recognised on a MAC and PC.
|
Ask yourself the following questions:
- Is the peripheral supplied with current?
- Is the peripheral's supply cable firmly connected
to your computer and the wall socket?
- Is the blue "Power" light on your FlyCASE on?
- Are the two ends of the FireWire cable properly
connected and installed? Check the two ends of the
FireWire cable. Disconnect them, wait ten seconds
then reconnect them firmly.
- Check the presence of the icon on the Desktop.
Does the icon corresponding to the peripheral appear
on the computer screen (on a Mac) or in Workstation
(on a PC)?
- Have you followed the peripheral's installation
procedure? Go back to the beginning of the installation
procedure described in the "Installation" chapter
in your user's manual.
- If the peripheral is still not recognised, restart
your computer and try again. |

After
checking everything to do with software and hardware
installation (MAC and PC), the FlyCASE is still
not recognised, or it operates too slowly.
|
Follow the following procedure
on MAC and PC:
- Does the configuration of your hardware correspond
to the minimum required configuration indicated
in the PikaOne documentation?
- Is your FlyCASE in conflict with other peripherals
installed on your computer?
- Are there other FireWire peripherals connected
in sequence to the same port?
- Disconnect the other peripherals and see what
happens. Is your FlyCASE recognised / is performance
improved? If yes, reconnect the peripherals one
by one to see which one is in conflict with the
FlyCASE.
- If the problem continues, contact your PikaOne
dealer. |

The
FlyCASE FireWire is not recognised on MAC or PC.
|
Are the FireWire drivers properly installed and
activated?
To check on a PC:
- Click on the "Start" menu, - Go to
- Click on the selection Hard Disk or Disk Drive
to check if your FlyCASE has been recognised and
the drivers are installed and activated. Your new
hard disk should appear in the list. To make sure,
all you need do is select Hard Disk/Disk Drive and
disconnect your FlyCASE; your FlyCASE hard disk
should disappear from the screen. Then reconnect
it. Now it should reappear.
To check on a Macintosh:
- Use the extensions manager to check that the drivers
are installed and activated. The FireWire driver
tick box should be activated. |

I've
chained FlyCASE slim FireWires on a MAC or a PC,
and I'm having problems with the power supply
to my FlyCASEs.
|
The FireWire standard ensures an output of 1.5 amps
available to the 6-pin FireWire connector. It enables
you to chain up to 63 peripherals. When the computer
has a 6-pin FireWire connector, it is possible to
chain 2 FlyCASE Slims without using an external
power supply. The voltage supplied by this connector
is sufficient to supply 2 FlyCASE Slims. Beyond
that, any additional FlyCASE Slim must be supplied
with a 5-volt external power supply.
If the connector on the Master computer is of the
4-pin mini FireWire type, you must supply each FlyCase
Slim separately. This connector does not supply
any power to your FlyCASE Slim. For the "FlyCASE"
USB2 or FireWire, you must always use a 2-volt external
power supply to supply each FlyCASE separately.

Which
drivers do I need to use my FlyCASE with USB and
MAC
|
If your MAC has the Apple version 1.3.5 or higher
USB drivers, it will not be necessary to install
other drivers. The MAC will automatically detect
your FlyCASE. However, if you are using MAC OS 8.5
version, the mass storage peripherals (hard disks,
backups, etc.) are not managed. Only peripherals
like the mouse and keyboard are supported by this
version. An update to the OS 8.5.1 version will
be necessary and the OS 8.6 version or higher is
advised.
To date, the MAC system does not manage the USB
2 standard as native. Your FlyCASE will operate
therefore at the speed of the USB 1 standard, or
12Gb/sec. |

Which
versions of MAC OS support FireWire?
|
The minimum version is the MAC OS 8.6, but the more
stable MAC OS 9.0.4 version is preferable. Support
of FireWire extensions 2.3.3 or higher containing
support and validation of FireWire is necessary

My
FlyCASE is not recognised on a MAC PowerBook with
FireWire.
|
In some cases, if the PowerBook is switched on before
the FlyCASE is supplied and connected to the MAC,
the FlyCASE will not be recognised. It is a recognised
problem on this type of computer. The solution is
to disconnect and hot reconnect the FireWire cable
of the FlyCASE (after starting up the PowerBook).
This does not occur with iBook, iMAC and G4. |

The
MAC initialises properly, but the FlyCASE USB
does not appear on the Desktop.
|
Run the "PikaFORMAT" MAC program and check that
the FlyCASE is detected on the bus. If it is not
detected, check: · The cables are properly connected
(USB and power supply) · That the power light on
your FlyCASE is a constant blue and that the activity
light of your disk is off. · If your FlyCASE is
connected to a Hub USB, disconnect it from the Hub
and plug the USB cable straight into the USB port
of your MAC. Run the "PikaFORMAT" programme again
and try to select the FlyCASE and to mount it on
the Desktop. If nothing happens, check that the
USB drivers are installed. If in doubt, reinstall
the USB drivers. |

Which
drivers do I need to manage FireWire on my PC?
mon PC ?
|
No additional driver is necessary. Windows 98SE
(second edition), Windows ME, Windows 2000 and Windows
XP support FireWire as native. Your system will
recognise FlyCASE and the drivers will be installed
automatically. However, the FireWire driver included
in Windows XP is the most efficient and optimised.
To get the best performance from your FlyCASE, you
are advised to use it with Windows XP and on a PC
incorporating a 2 GHz CPU. Windows 98 and Windows
NT do not support FireWire |

for the best driver for your peripheral
|
Insert the "PikaOne Programs and Drivers" CD-ROM
in your computer's CD-ROM drive. Click on the option
"Specify a location" and indicate the access path
of the USB drivers available on the PikaOne CD-ROM.
Follow the messages displayed on the screen and
let Windows install the USB drivers of your FlyCASE.
At the end of the procedure, the following message
tells you that installation of the USB driver is
complete. The installation procedure then returns
to the starting point. Windows asks you whether
you want to install a second driver. Continue in
the same way to install it in your system. |

I connect my FlyCASE and it does not mount on
the Desktop.
|
Several points must be checked:
Disconnect the USB2 cable and reconnect it, Or,
· Connect the USB2 cable directly to the computer
(remove all intermediaries like Hub, keyboard, etc.)
· Disconnect the supply cable and the USB2 cable.
Then reconnect the power supply cable first, wait
3 seconds and connect the USB2 cable, Or, · In some
cases, it will be necessary to connect your FlyCASE
to another USB2 plug of your computer, Or, · Restart
the computer if it has crashed and is unstable at
HUB and USB2 controller level. · Uninstall and Reinstall
the drivers of your FlyCASE (Windows 98/98SE), see
chapter 3 of the FlyCASE user's manual. |

My FlyCASE
is not recognised by Windows or it crashes randomly.
|
Your FlyCASE has been checked under Windows with
the main USB2 controller cards on the market. To
get the best conditions possible, consult your PC
or USB2 PCI cards dealer for the latest versions
of the drivers of your USB2 Host controller. Also
visit USB2 card and computer manufacturers' websites
where you will usually find the latest drivers available
as well as the latest BIOS of the motherboards installed
in your computer. |

In Windows,
after installing the USB2 drivers of the controller
incorporated in the PC motherboard and those of
the FlyCASE (in Win 98/98SE), the disk mounts
on the Desktop. If I reboot and the FlyCASE is
connected to the USB2 Port, 2 (identical) FlyCASEs
mount on the Windows Workstation.
|
You must update your computer's BIOS system and
install the latest USB2s available on the website
of the motherboard or computer manufacturer (Gigabyte,
VIA, etc.) |

When I
start PikaFORMAT, formatting crashes at around
30% of the formatting.
|
In some cases, this phenomenon can occur in a highly
random fashion. It can be due to instability of
the system during the running of PikaFORMAT. Restart
your system and run PikaFORMAT again; the formatting
should now run successfully. |

When
I format 2 partitions with PikaFORMAT (1 FAT and
1 HFS) or (2 FAT), can they be viewed on MAC? |
R) There are certain restrictions on passing from
one file system to another. It is important however
to note that if good compatibilities exist, it is
preferable and advisable with MAC to use the HFS
formatting for a low-capacity disk lower or equal
to 20 GB and HFS+ for disks greater than 20 GB.
In the table below you will find a list of compatibilities
between the different computers and the different
operating systems.
NB:
:If the MAC
mounts 2 partitions of the same disk, when a disk
is sent to the wastebasket, OS 10 automatically
sends the 2nd disk to the wastebasket. With MAC
OS 9.x, you must send both disks to the wastebasket
in order to be able to disconnect them.

the MAC to crash. In this case, disconnect the FlyCASE,
switch on your MAC again and connect the FlyCASE
when the Desktop is displayed on the screen of your
MAC. |

My FlyCASE
has very slow transfer rates on my MAC.
|
In order to get the best from your FlyCASE, you
should connect it to the FireWire port of your MAC.
Your MAC does not yet have a USB2 port (480 Mb/s)
enabling it to achieve performances similar to the
FireWire interface (400 Mb/s). Your FlyCASE adapts
itself therefore to the USB1 interface of your MAC,
which is 12 Mb/s, or 40 times slower than the USB2
interface. If your MAC has the FireWire interface,
we advise you therefore to use your FlyCASE with
this interface. |
